Our History

Our History

Pastor H. Studier organized the congregation in 1894.  The pleasant Ridge school served as its first meeting place until the first church building as erected in 1897.  During those years before the church was built, a building fund was established through donations of ear corn brought by the donors to the future church site.

The original church building served as the place of worship until May 15, 1949 when ground breaking ceremonies were held for the present structure.  The building fund for the new church was established during the pastorate of Pastor George F. Dirks, who came to the parish in May of that year.  During the building interim, services were held regularly in a rented vacant church building belonging to the United Brethren denomination at Athol.

On March 26, 1950, the new St. John Lutheran Church was dedicated.  Over 10,000 hours of labor had been donated by the members in the erection of their new church.  The church has continued to grow through the years.  From the church membership we have had many serve in the military, members who entered the ministry and one going into the mission field.

Since 1950 we have continued to update and improve the church building.  We know that God's wonderful grace will be extended to successive generations.  Humbly the church membership declares, "Let us give thanks unto God for he is good and His mercy endures forever."
