November 2026 Scripture Readings

November 1 - All Saints Sunday

November 15 - 25th Sunday after Pentecost

November 8 - 24th Sunday after Pentecost

First Reading • Revelation 7:2-8, 9-17

I

Psalm • Psalm 149:1-9

Second Reading • 1 John 3:1-3

Gospel • Matthew 5:1-12

Blessed are the inside-out. Those who trust the Lord are content with the reverse of what the world calls good. When bad things happen, Christians find their joy in the Lord. The Beatitudes are not logical but rather, mysterious. Nevertheless, they are spiritually sensible; an intrinsic truth calls out to us in each verse. While they teach of a blessed hope for the future, they also show us the way through the present. The saints of God are learning to be content in Christ, especially when the world turns life inside-out (Phil 4:11-13).

November 8 - 24th Sunday after Pentecost

First Reading • Amos 5:18-24

Psalm • Psalm 70:1-5

Second Reading • 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

Gospel • Matthew 25:1-13

This life is the wick. Keep it trimmed and ready. Jesus, the Bridegroom, promised to return for the Church, his Bride (John 14:3). The Bride of Christ must be ready, her lamps trimmed, watchful. As this parable suggests he might, the Lord has tarried. Though many grow discouraged and slothful, Christians must not give up hope. The oil of faith must be constantly replenished, and the wick of life ever-trimmed, because Jesus is returning—though he has tarried by our reckoning—to take his Bride to the wedding feast of the Lamb (Rev 19:6-9).

November 15 - 25th Sunday after Pentecost

November 15 - 25th Sunday after Pentecost

First Reading • Zephaniah 1:7-16

Psalm • Psalm 90:1-12

Second Reading • 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

Gospel • Matthew 25:14-30

Depending upon whether these were silver or gold talents, the master entrusted the servant with the one talent somewhere between 20 and 600 years worth of income. No wonder he demanded to know why such a huge amount of money had not been invested.

We may not think we have been given as much to invest as others have received. But each of us has been given enough, for we have been given what God assigned (1 Cor 7:17). He is just in his distribution and we must be faithful is what he has imparted to us.

November 22 - Christ the King Sunday

November 22 - Christ the King Sunday

November 15 - 25th Sunday after Pentecost

First Reading • Ezekiel 34:11-16, 20–24

Psalm • Psalm 95:1-7a

Second Reading • 1 Corinthians 15:20-28

Gospel • Matthew 25:31-46

The point of Christ’s kingdom, at least in part, must be that the family of God inherits what should rightfully be his alone. The King, the only begotten Son, gives his kingdom as inheritance to all those who are blessed of his Father. Jesus gave his life so that we could live in his kingdom. Then he gives us the kingdom. This is a King unlike any other king in history.

November 29 - 1st Sunday of Advent

November 22 - Christ the King Sunday

November 29 - 1st Sunday of Advent

First Reading • Isaiah 64:1-9

Psalm • Psalm 80:1-7

Second Reading • 1 Corinthians 1:3-9

Gospel • Mark 13:24-37

No one knows the day of Christ’s returning. Jesus said that even he did not know when he would return. So, we should not be concerned with times and dates. Instead, our interest should be the same as Jesus’ business (Luke 2:49). Until he does return, we should be alert and wakeful, doing the work of the gospel.
